I started work on this project during the initial concept stage at Barton Willmore as a architectural assistant. This was when working with Arena 1865 develop concepts and numerous proposals to enable financial forecasting and design rationalisation for the client and other members of the project team.
The recreation ground has been the home to Bath Rugby since its conception in 1865. Proposals to redevelop the site have been on going for nearly 25 years. In 2010 a new owner took over the club and with significant financial backing, sought to redevelop the recreation ground once more. Working as part of a in house architectural team, I worked up proposals to shape an idea of aesthetic, room schedules and requirements as defined by the green code and the Arena Design guidance notes. After 2 years of development, the project team expanded to incorporate Wilkinson Eyre architects, Buro Happold and Boyer Planning who had the resources to develop and submit a planning application and the required studies. Through public consultations and presentations the it was eventually decided not to submit the application due to a legal complication with an objection made. The project is currently under review and is looking to be submitted again in the coming years.
